Fees & benefits


CIPA is the UK’s largest IP organisation and the pre-eminent professional body representing patent attorneys. There are four key benefits to membership:

Status The title ‘Chartered Patent Attorney’ commands worldwide respect and trust. CIPA protects and promotes this reputation on behalf of its members, while maintaining high standards throughout the UK profession.

Influence – The Institute engages with judges, politicians and policymakers at home and abroad, with greater reach and with more influence than any individual attorney or firm.

Learning – CIPA provides access to high-quality, tailored and cost-effective training resources, including webinars, textbooks and manuals, professional guidance and constant updates and analyses on matters of interest to IP attorneys.

Types of membership


Fee reductions

We offer reduced rates of membership fees to those who are on parental leave, practice breaks, temporarily unemployed, or out of work due to extended illness.

Journal subscriptions

All members receive a free subscription to our monthly publication, the CIPA Journal, covering IP news, important policy and practice developments and the latest case law. The rates for non-members are below:

  • UK Journal subscription – £179
  • EU Journal subscription – £222
  • Rest of world Journal subscription – £255

All fees include postage charges and subscriptions run from January to December each year. Non-members can also subscribe to the CIPA Journal by emailing publications@cipa.org.uk.


Ways to pay

Credit/Debit card

You can make payments at CIPA quickly and easily online using a Debit or Credit card. We accept VISA, Electron, Mastercard,  Maestro, Solo and American Express.

BACS/Bank transfer payments

Bank transfers can be made directly to CIPA using the below details. Please ensure that you reference your invoice number or renewal number when using this method so that we can ensure that payments are allocated to the correct account.
