Women in IP case study

Dr. Liz Zijing Li – Co-founder and COO of Mimicrete

Dr. (Liz) Zijing Li is the Co-founder, COO and inventor of Mimicrete Ltd,  a materials science startup developing a novel technology for sustainable and resilient construction materials.

Liz developed the technology during her doctorate at the Geotechnical and Environmental Research Group in the Department of Engineering of the University of Cambridge, where her research focused on biomimetic materials and vascular self-healing concrete.

Liz has been recognized as one of the UK’s top women entrepreneurs by the Women in Innovation Awards. Liz is one of 50 winners of the prestigious award, which celebrates women entrepreneurs who have innovative ideas and ambitious plans that inspire others.

Any challenges she’s faced and why it’s important for women to join the profession

When we mention the construction industry, people would normally think of a group of men. Women comprise 9.3% of all construction employees and only 13% of construction firms are owned by women. We need to inspire and really to create the next generation of female leaders, build-up confidence and exposure to females.
